Music | Delvok

I am still thinking about Vulcan music

“Delvok never seemed Vulcan to me. There’s too much emotion on his music.”

Could it be the same Delvok?

That`s something Jadzia Dax says on the sixth episode of DS9`s second season. She’s on a mission with ensign Melora Pazlar and Melora asks the computer to play an etude by Delvok. She simply says “it’s pretty”, in response, and I think the ensign demonstrates a deeper understanding of the music than Jadzia, in spite of her three centuries of experience…

It makes perfect sense to me that Vulcan music should be pouring with emotion. In very simple terms, it’s gotta go somewhere. And isn’t this one of the purposes of art? To provide an escape? A way to express the inexpressible?

In the script, Delvok’s music was described as “Chopin meets Spock”. One of the most wonderful things about being a script writer is that you get to write things like that and watch wonderful ideas become a reality on the screen… I couldn’t find Delvok’s actual music- at least what they play on the episode – on youtube… But I found something else. Also by the name of Delvok… And it is… It is…

It is pretty.
